Ideal PH

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ideal PH would probably be slightly lower but these cats are hardy and adapt to many conditions. I don't think you would find the effort worth it because lowering ph is hard to reliably do. I think if you went through the effort the changes in fish behavior or health would be negligible.

you can never go wrong with a pH around 7.0 unless you have saltwater or africans

any advice on what ideal PH for RTC,Shovelnose cats in 1000 gal pond and how to maintain it.Presently at 7.6

Is this an outdoor pond? A lot of variables come into play like for example rain water. A lot of rain water tends to be acidic and can throw off the PH. Cats are hardy and can pretty much live in crap environment.

This is an indoor pond water changes done with city water.Chemically adjusting the PH can be quite expensive trying to adjust to neutral

I suppose to allow for that magnitude of an adjustment, I would require a significant size piece of wood. Its worth a try. Thanks

I have a 4 foot drift wood piece in my 200 gallon tank. I'm sure you can just go to a local river and grab some.

I wouldn't bother adjusting the PH if it's not necessary and with the catfish it does not seem to be. As u do water changes it will send the pH back up each time, to then be brought back down afterwards (one way or another). It will create an environment with an unstable PH which is worse than a PH slightly off your target.
