I tried clicking on the cycling and you sticky but it did not work. I am doing a fishless cycle on my brand new 55 gallon. I put flourite sand in and planted some plants and bulbs. I want to make sure it's fully cycled before I add any fish. What are the ideal levels for Nitrites, nitrates, ammonia, Carbonite hardness, and general hardness?

Thank you in advance

P.S. If I'm doing a fishless cycle can I just run all the tank equipment and wait for the levels to drop, if so how long will it take?

anyone?

what are you using to cycle the tank?

flakes tend to cause and algae bloom after it's cycled.
I like to use frozen foods. drop them in and let them rot.

Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = 10-20 ppm for planted tank
Ammonia = 0
Hardness: Ideal levels depend on the species you want to keep. Mollies and most African cichlids like it hard, neons and other Amazonian species like it soft.

I meant I could get to that page but when trying to click on a link it would not work, thanks for the info, and as to how to do they cycle :S, should I just drop a piece of food in and let it rot for a while?

anyone else have any input?

I would use some frozen shrimp, throw two or three pieces in and wait for 4 weeks. At that point you can then start monitoring the cycling process.

Here is a link with some good info http://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm

The links within the sticky do not bring up anything useful. Just the following

Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.
