I have a 220 tall (I got it used, otherwise it would be wide) that is 6 by 2 by 2.5. what ray is best suited? it needs to match these criteria.

. easy for a beginner
. appropriate max size
. under $250
. as beautiful as possible

I'm not sure but I think you need at least a 3' wide tank for most adult rays.

I think a teacup ray would be good for a 2 foot width, they only get like 20" I believe.

p. reticulata, or p. hystrix would be best suited. The latter of the 2 being the more expensive much harder to find ray. Also you might read that p. reticulata is not a good beginner ray and thats not true. my first rays were and still are retics. I obtained both around the 3.5 inch mark and now the male is just over 4.5" and the female is approaching the 5 3/4" mark in just over 3 months of owning them. The only problems i had with these rays was getting them to eat, at first they only ate ghost shrimp but now they will also eat nightcrawlers (cut up) and the odd guppy fry that i drop in every once in a while.

I agree but I would definetely not say P. Hystrix was harder to find or expensive. I've seen Hystrix rays in stock and for sale for less than 100 bucks recently from online wholesalers, and they ship most anywhere..PM if u want details..
