Hello all, I am a noob to the site. Many, many moons ago, I had a 55 g salt water FOWLR (as none of the corals survived). I had it set up with a filter sock sump, but I have since parted ways with that setup and have no recollection of components. So, I know that the standard answer for many will be to RTFF. This I understand, and I have read much of it on multiple sites. However, there is a plethora of info out there, and much of it is either conflicting or confusing for a noob as myself.
So, first off, I picked up 2 free tanks, 125g and 90g, 72" x 16.5" x 24" and 72" x 15" x 17" respectively. Using a diy found on this forum, I built a double tank stand. My plan is to use the 125g for the display and the 90g for the sump. Neither tank is "reef ready." I used this video to create the tank overflow (
). I have been using this article for sump design ideas...http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2003-01/gt/index.php.
The tanks came with under gravel filtration, but I read that these will not work with live sand. Additionally, it came with 3 aquaclear 70 powerheads, 1 aq 50 powerhead, and 2 visitherm 300 heaters. My ultimate goal is to create a reef tank with light fish and invertebrates.
So, my goal here is to gain ideas for how to set up my sump, what pump to use, and economical ways to avoid purchasing costly reactors. I would also consider an ato setup. I am not sure what additional information I could provide. The vertical travel from the base of the sump to the top of the display tank is roughly 60".
I thank you all in advance. And yes, I will continue to RTFF.
