I am new to the board and would like some design ideas/plans for my 240(8'x2'x2') and 125(6'x2'x2'). Because of space constraints I would like to build a stand that accomodates both tanks stacked. Ideally I would like the 125 below near the ground level and the 240 around 4' above the ground.

All of your input is much appreciated.

well if you build it out of wood nothing smaller than 4x4's and 2x6's

Thanks for the input, I actually was considering purchasing a rack I saw at a big box store the other day: http://www.whalenstorage.com/products/industrial_rack_black.html

For $150 it apparently can hold up to 2000 lbs for rack. Instead of the 240 I'm going to go with a 180 and 125. This stand might be right for me.

A 180 is going to weight 1500 in water alone. Guessing maybe another 300 or 400 for glass tank?? Fish are bouyant so you lucky there :) Add in rock, filters, and anything else in or on the shelf and you are right at the limit if not over.

Personally I would build a stand out of 2x4's there are a lot of good examples people have done on this site and it can be done relatively inexpensively if you have a saw and drill already.

If you go with that metal stand or anything similar make sure you do something to distribute the weight coming off the legs better. Concrete should do fine as normally it would be at least 3000 psi. Either way; concrete or wood subfloor I would distribute the weight out more personally.
