I have a 1500 gallon pond in my garage and with winter coming was thing of making a plywood lid with a cut out for a piece of glass or acrylic for light and will netting in the summer. was wondering what other people do for the top of their ponds.

thanks

I wouldn't use plywood because it will eventually warp from the moisture. I would personally just use a sheet of acrylic as a top that way you can always watch your fish and acrylic does a good job of insulating as well.

That was my original idea have not yet priced it out. Not at home right now but I believe would need two pieces that are 88 inches by 48 inches. I do agree that the acrylic would make viewing the pond much more pleasurable. Any thought on how thick of acrylic would be needed so i doesn't bow? would half inch be to much.

thanks

Also with the plywood was going to hinge it about 2 feet in on both sides so I would have easier access for feed. I know with the acrylic would just have to more one panel over during feed or could to be hinged as well. Thank for all the ideas.

What about combining the foam insulation sheet with plywood? Foam side down, adhered to the ply. This way you can hinge it for access, get the insulating benefit of foam, and no warping because the foam board blocks the moisture.
