Hey guys. I'm looking for ideas to improve my 70 gallons scaping. The tank currently looks like this:

I'm looking to add a substrate and additional decor to function as hiding space and sight breaks. The swords are currently in fluorite but it's way too expensive to cover the entire bottom. I'm thinking of sand but am unsure on colour.

What would you guys recommend? Rockery? More wood? What substrate and so on. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks, Hendre

If you can get untreated pool filter sand I think it would look good with your natural stuff and that brown fluorite. Very cheap and is better than most aquarium branded sands imo.

Driftwood is looking good, maybe go for a hike and find some nice big river rocks to add with it and to make some little caves too.

Imo, sometimes people over do it with the driftwood. It turns into a cluttered mess. I like how it looks now. I would definitely add some kind of substrate though. I don't like the look of bare bottom tanks. I like brown colors for substrates. My 75 has this small gravel that is a mix of light browns and tans, and I love it. I've seen mixes of darker browns too.

I agree with GamerChick5567 GamerChick5567 I noticed the background has stones on it so by adding similar looking stones maybe in each corner or of your preference where they look best in your eyes.

Thanks for the input. Rocks sound good but unfortunately light substrate washes out the knives and the light gravel i had did just that.

The bare bottom is just because the previous gravel looked bad and was a nightmare to clean. I may be looking for a darker brown sand for the tank

Imagining that I think it would be nice. Thanks for the idea :)

I will just have to find another fish to replace my pink tail for when he gets too large. The top is quite open and all the other fish are usually in and around the bottom. And a butterfly fish isn't the best space filler lol

I agree, I always like a mix of driftwood and large river rock with plants. I prefer sand, I have it in all my tanks. You should be able to find a darker color sand.

I would move that large wood a little more towards the left corner and kind of angle it more. A grouping of large rocks sprinkled with some smaller stones is nice. I found most all of my rocks at the local river and they have some beautiful color.

Your background looks similar to one I have in my bedroom 55 gallon.

I have seen nice river rocks and will try and grab some next time. The wood I'll experiment with the angles and place it more to the left in the end.

I love sand, i currently have black sand in my 15 but I think brown will fit better

I just rescaped my 200G recently, so you can get an idea of what brown sand + river rocks + woods and plants could potentially look like...

have a look at the law of thirds, id move the pieces you have together to the left slightly of the middle, and add a substrate
