well im going to get a breeding pair of convicts in a breeder tank (unsure of exact gallon sizes) but i can fit like 3 10 gallons in it and still have room to spare.

i was wondering about decoration (send pics) and maybe tank mates like clown loaches?

oh and what is the best substrate for the bottom?

I like sand and the fish seem to as well, easier for them to dig pits. Give them a flower pot or make caves from rock or wood and they'll be happy. For tank mates in a tank that size (guessing around 40g) better off without any but you can find combo's that work. Keeping in mind con's will aggressively protect their fry even against you. I haven't tried to keep breeding con's with tank mates in anything under a 55.

yes but i know that from my other three tanks snail will inevitably get in them..... i started out with no snails and now have 3 different species and use clown loaches for population control

They wont get in there unless introduced via plants or decor from another tank that has them. I've never keep clown loaches so I have no opinion. but snails wont be a problem unless you add them.

Get some catfish and danios with sand substrate. Use fake plants cause convicts can kill live ones and throw in some drift wood.

not really inevitable, the eggs aren't likely to be in the fliter or free floating in the water. Mine will eat snails small enough to fit in their mouth. I actually breed snails as treats for my large and mid-size ca's.

I like the idea of alot of pots and a few fake plants. Gives plenty of room for hiding. As for dither fish, it might be hard to keep much alive with them. I would think some danios or another fast swimming top water fish would be your best bet. I'm currently using a 30 as a growout tank for my convict fry. I was thinking about moving my breeding pair into though. You can see photos of it on my profile for an idea.

As far as natural color sand goes it's the best and cheap, $12 for 50lbs at the pool stores around me. Comes pretty clean so it doesn't take much rinsing. I'd stay way from play sand as it's real fine and get stirred up easily and more of it will end up in the filter.
