i was wondering if anyone has any ideas for a DIY fry holder... i have one of the floating ones for in the tank, but mama fish does not even fit. i was thinking plastic milk jug or something like that... any ideas?

african cichlids.. biggest one now is about 4 inches

i just saw a milk jug with styrofoam as floaties... i think i will try that...

Get some acrylic and make a large box drill small holes all on the sides for water flow and figure out where and how you want to hang float or what.

My LFS sells some nice cheap ones (like $5) otherwise I use rubbermaid type small containers and use a saw to cut panels out like said above.

Get a 5 or 10 gallon and put the mother in there when she is about to blow and then leave her in there for a couple of days to get some food and nutrients. Thats what i did But my female would never hold more then 3-4 days. But if you get a 5-10 gallon tank you can use that as a fry tank to.

Plastic canvas sheets from a hobby store that are used for yarn and needlework work well to keep bigger fish isolated and are pretty cheap. Zip ties or fishing string work to piece them together as big as you want. They work well for tank dividers too...
