I have a 20 gal tank i want to experiment with before doing anything on my larger tanks. My plan was to get a 24 inch long thick plastic window boxused for plants, the kind without holes, and use three bracketsto attach it to the wall either right behind or above the tank. I wanted to use a small fountain pump to push water in one end with the water going through a sponge, then through a bag of bioballs the restof the boxisto be full of pothos, peace lillies, and possibly bamboo. I the plan on feeding it back into the tank with an overflow at the planted end. Ive been aching for an experiment. Any thoughts critisizms or ideas?

I was actually thinking of the brackets they use to hang them under the windows but idk how sturdy theyd actually be....also need to find the studs in the wall so i kno it wont pull out and end up in the tank....still battling the wifey on this one tho she doesnt think itll look nice lol.....ill have to wait till shes at work lol

Yep, making it look nice is the challenge!!!!

I was going to suggest 4" or 6" pvc pipe with holes drilled into it like hydroponic systems. Or the ~ 4" x 4" railing posts with holes cut into it... like hydroponic systems. But the "look nice" is a challenge. The square plastic railing posts might look nice. I would look at hydroponic media for the plants to root into.

The bell siphon is a great idea... you might want to research them and leaving room for one if you wanted to incorporate one later. Those feeding troughs look nice and heavy duty but not exactly wife compatible.

The true tricky part is wife compatable. The reason i chose the window bos is because of its size. I believe the dimensions are about 8 in high 6 in wide and 24 inches long. Gives me a lil room to play. I was also contemplating putting feeder guppies in planted section with 1/8 inch mesh before the overflow....every so many days my fish have something to hunt. If i pull the tank away from the wall and conceal most of the box behind my background it may look somewhat presentable......at least from the front.....plants would look nice anywho

The one long black feeder closely reswmbles the box i will be using unfortunatl im on a low budget base

Probably heading outbtoday to get prices and see of its actually worth it. The pump i think will be the biggest expense, does anyone know the hardware mesh cloth is it tank safe? Also if i male compartments in the back what filter media shouls i use? I was thinking of running sponges in the first and pot scrubbies in the second but with suck little space ,aybe i should use carbon? New to makin filters i usually just buy but like i said i want a project....
also i needs ideas for the plants to root into i kno some people are using lava rock but what else is out there?
