still working out the plans for my big concrete tank aprox 1500 gal

saltwater

i have looked at heat exchangers and everything else aquatic eco systems sells,

i have read that some people just heat the room the tank is in rather than heat the water. this would work well being the tank has its own room

will this work? i could use a wall mount propane or natural gas heater in that room

what about the rv water heaters, would they work for saltwater?

any help would be appreciated

what energy source ??? electric propane natural gas ???

I wouldnt reccommend heating room to heat water waste of energy and bill will be alot higher. If you have a hotwater heater use a heat exchanger and digital monitor from aquaticeco i have same setup for my 8000 gallon facility which at first i heated room and when i switched heating costs went down 40%.

i can use any energy source, electric, and natural gas i already have, i am adding a propane tank to heat the room adjacent to the fish tank

i got a real nice propane heater at a very cheap price

wizzin,

i live in baldwin, where are you located at, and how
big is your concrete tank??

i would love to bring my wife by to see it, if possible, and help her visualize this project better

any other ideas,

the room the tank is in is about 14 feet long 5 feet wide, it probably would not take much to heat the room from room temp to 78

I actually live in Jeannette near Greensburg. You're welcome to come visit any time. Once it's finished and running that is. I've been test filling it. It's about 1000gal excluding filter.

i should of put 2 and 2 together, i have been following your diy thread on your tank, and never looked at your location :grinno:

wizzin,

I never took the extras. He has them all though. I just talked to him. He wants $200 each, and delivery would be free if you take all 4. :D BTW. I don't know how warm you need the water, but I'm going to try to use (2) 1000watt titanium heaters to see how warm it gets. The room temp is about 68-70, and the water is about 66 right now. The 1000watts are going in the sump, so my thought is that it will warm the water faster in the smaller sump tank. That's still a theory though.
