i have 2 aquariums, wife says no more. i currently have a container in the garage i and breeding snails in and a 5g bucket for feeder crayfish and crabs for my puffer. winter is comming and the garage will begin to get too cold for these containers. i have a 12"x8"x6" in tank regufium i can use for the snails but i need ideas for keeping the crayfish and crabs in the tank but out of the puffers reach. i buy about a dozen total and hold them for 2 weeks until they are gone. the crabs and crayfish will easily climb out of the refugium. are there any products out there like the refugium with locking lids or creative ideas that look a little better than tupperware with holes?

I made one with a container drilled holes on the top side so when the water gets to the top it will come out and go in my tank...i connected a holes to my filter so water could travel from the filter to the container and back to yhe tank.....also add airi had a video about it bit i deleted it .if you want ill make one 2morro

I use a hollowed out piece of driftwood that my crays reside in. They seem to be berried regularly, So the key is to provide enough cover for them. I plan to add more crays and pvc pipes etc. Just remember to cater to the Crays during feedings. What kind of snails are You breeding. If MTS then I say dump them in. If they have enough substrate to burrow in then a nice Quantity will always be availible... What kind of Puffer?

I'd need alot of heaters to keep the water warm when its 20 out there. Its a fahaka puffer. Im thinking ill just get my hampster ball back out. I used to use a hampster ball to seperate fish that were causing problems or hold the ones i wanted till i got off work. Worked pretty good back then. Thanks yall

How are you filtering the tanks? If you're using a sump you could probably keep the crays/crabs in there if you could make some space. Otherwise probably a suspended basket like others have suggested. You might need to consider how aggressive your puffer is likely to get though if it can see the delicious scuttling crustaceans. Might tempt it to spend all day trying to chew through a plastic basket.....and possibly succeed.

They are filtered with canister filters. He will go after anything new in the refugium for a day or two til he gets bored.
