Hi All,

1st post here so nice to meet you all. I've been a planted tank fan for a number of years and have generally kept smaller fish rather than monsters. Mainly due to not having a tank big enough to do them justice.

I've got a 4*2*2 at the moment with cardinals, dwarf rainbows, cories and a GAE. In the next couple of months I'll be picking up a 6*2*2 which was the reason I decided to sign up here.... finally I'll have a tank that I can keep some 'junior' monsters in!!

I am totally excited about being able to keep some larger fish but now I've got to narrow down options etc. In terms of filtration I've got an FX5, he he I made sure I kept my options open for a bigger tank when I bought it last year :D and I may have kept that little fact hidden from the missus ;)

There will be next to no chance of going any bigger than 6*2*2 in our current home so I guess I'm looking at fish that can be kept in a tank that size without needing rehoming or upgrading to an 8 or 10ft tank.

Clown loaches are def on my list, but other than that I'm open to suggestions!! I'll also be limited by what is available in NZ but would love to hear your ideas

thanks in advance
ben

i don't think these fish will work with a clown loach....but my pics are a jaguar cichild, tiger shovelnose catfish, polypterus endlicheri, green terror and a royal pleco

Your stock list is somewhat limiting..... however there are some awesome plecos out there you could go for. Maybe an L330

whoops, sorry should have mentioned that I'd be starting afresh with fish choices. The existing lot will get sold or moved to a smaller tank I've got setup.

Not even 100% on the clowns but I am after bigger fish that have some personality. Will have a look at the fish mentioned so far tho.

Arowana, Dats, Bichirs, P-Bass, Discus, Gars, Clown Knifes (my wish list for a nice 180 gallon anyways)

dats would be fine for years and years and years in that tank...how bout
-a nice sized school of Clown loaches maybe 15-20 of them?
-4 Dats as the center piece fish
-a royal pleco(not sure the real name)
-and a school of tinfoil barbs or silver dollars

That sounds pretty cool!! The tinfoil barbs/silver dollars would pretty much rule out much in the way of plants I guess? is that also the case with Dats?
