I am looking to get something a bit different to go in my current tank and am after some ideas/advice.

I am currently running a 120 US Gallon tank with ample filtration lots of plant cover and rocks.

Currently in the tank we have 2 green terrors (male and female) 3 convicts (2 male and 1 female) 1 parrot, 1 keyhole, 1 robertsonni, 1 cat fish (type unsure), 1 blue phantom plec and a poly sengalus.

They are all mid sized at present and get along fine (I think this is due to having all been in together from when very small)

I am looking for 1 or two last fish to complete the happy family but am looking for something a bit different, any thoughts?

anything considered, open to ideas

looking forward to your thoughts

how about a red hump eartheater? Very interesting species and the males look pretty cool

IMHO i think your full when it comes to cichlids if its a 4x2x2 120, even a longer tank just gives the breeding pairs more turf so i reckon your still full. especially once the cons breed and it will happen its a matter of when not if. your keyhole may suffer with the others as its the softest out of the bunch and wont last 5 mins with a breeding pair of cons.
you seem to have a tank full of potential, stress this word, aggression. they may get along now but when they all get larger and start to breed. the GT's will own the tank if they breed. so your other fish will die, IMO, if the GT's breed and the cons breed as they will have nowhere to run to. i think a pair of GT's need something like a 100 to themselves if i remember right. so any more will really be pushing it.
if it works now then i wouldnt risk pushing the boundries and ruining it all for 1 more 6" fish. if youve found harmony then dont fix it if it aint broken.

fair comment, my original green terror female did lay eggs but they did not survive as they were laid in a place with no natural water movement leaving it all up to the male to fan them, she then died from what we can only put down to stress, the new female does not seem to in to the male but still i see your point.

the keyhole has not once (so far) had any problems and he hangs around with my parrot or the poly sengalis (about 1' long now)

my convicts just fight each other.

the tank is a bow fronted 5x2x2

i have a back up plan for my keyhole if there is a problem, he can be transferred to my work tank where he will be the biggest fish apart from a 6" bristlenose plec.

i have considered firemouths but have been told that they suffer white spot easily, will check out the red hump eartheater as have not heard of them

many thanks

research on the breeding pairs you have and look at their needs before putting anymore fish in, as 5ft is still quite short for containing a pair of GT's with a pair of cons. do a search at the top right of the forum.

FYI, FM's are tough as old boots but they are big blow hards with nothing to back up their huffing and puffing, an FM would get destroyed by either of your breeding pairs, although they may take a bit of abuse before it dies, bit like an oscar.
good luck.

have been looking in to details since setting up this thread and have decided that you may be right and i may be at my limit (hate admitting that as i do like bringing new fish home)

i have been offered a 5" poly palmas. as a bottom dweller/night feeder will this be ok or still a problem?

many thanks again for your advice

cheers

i know nothing about poly's so am unsure if they do ok together or if one is the limit for a tank.

i was told they will be ok together but i do not want to over stock the tank for the sake of 1 extra fish. its alot of reading this fish malarky  makes my brain hurt

The second poly should be fine unless there's a huge difference in size.
