Ideas of some fish for my 55 gallon...

I went to Petsmart tonight looking for a clown knife but they don't have them just African Brown Knife:irked:. I did see some other neat fish though like the Needle Fish, Red Belly Pacu ( do these guys really get 24 inches long) and then the bichirs which I am getting. What would be happy in a 55 gallon and living with bichirs?

pacu get more than 24''
Clown kinifes get like 4 feet. :\
Just pointing that out.
 
one species of pacu can exceed 5 feet, and red bellies get like 3 feet, so i wouldn't even consider it for your tank. clown knives can get over 3 feet, so they are also out of the question.
if i were you, i would get a pair of jack dempseys or green terrors to go with your bichirs.
 
you must assume their adult sizes first unless your plannin to get a bigger one by the time they get big
 
Yeah thee pacu and clown knife get huge. If I were you I'd go with the african knife fish. I've got one with my delhezi, and they get along very well.
 
I have my pet bass in a 125 gallon until after college than he's going into a 300 gallon. So pacu's are out of the question. Its funny but sad that the sign says tank size 30+ gallons at Petsmart.:WHOA: Jack Dempsys and Oscars remind me to much of a bluegill. I might just do a goldfish tank. Two of every species at Petsmart except for the expenisve ones.
