I have a Managuense who (big surprise) is a total jerk. He hangs out in a 55 by himself for right now. Soon, he will be in a little larger tank, and I'd like something other than him in there. I really want/need some kind of pleco or something in there, but I feel bad sending anyone in unarmed. Any ideas?

Put in at least 2 mates, make sure they are bigger than him,and tough enough to defend themselves,iv had luck with jags and oscars together, also split the tank up into territories, that will help, but be sure you have enough tank space for them when full grown

Territories didn't work with him and his tank mates before, and he was in a 125, which he will head back into when I figure out who can live with him. Right now, finding something larger than him is tough to do, without having it meaner than him. He hated his Oscar buddies. He even tried to kill a turtle. That's why I'm thinking pleco or maybe some kind of catfish? I need a pleco in there anyway, but I don't want him to torment it/them to death.

Is he damaging the other fish? Or just chasing them around?i have one large jag that would get pretty bossy but never actually strike, just chase, but eventually he gave it up

I put in a plexi divider, and after about a week the aggressive behaviour stopped,he only ever picked on this large oscar

I think that's the conclusion I've finally come to, is that I will put in a divider and try again. He actually killed one of his Oscar buddies. It took him one night with the lights off. He was such an easy going jag that I really didn't think I'd have the typical problems with him. I got him when he was quarter size and kept him with fish bigger than him his whole life. He really didn't mind anyone for at least 2 years. He marked off his territory, and that was that. Then one day when he reached little fishy manhood, and it all changed.
I should note that he is so aggressive that he actually tries to go after my dogs, which are great danes. He goes after my husband, too. He hates everyone and everything but me. Oddly, I'm not even the one who feeds him usually.

armored catfish is probably your best bet.something like a BIG raphael cat

Yup. something that keeps a low profile if you know what I mean :) Has the armor, and typically stays out of the way and hidden.

Sounds like a "tank banger" anything you put in is liekly going ot get whacked. I'de go the plexi routine as well, worst case you have an immediate divider if need be. I'de prolly find him a girl if I was going ot try and keep anything with him. I actually have a similar problem w/ a dwarf pike cichlid.. she is one nasty lil' girl and won't tolerate tank-mates, even plecos and catfish. I keep trying ot find her a boyfriend but otherwise she gets her own tank for everyones sake.

Oh, and if you can have some rock work in there, Blueberry loaches, a whole bunch. You may loose some at first, but after they are used to him, and they put on some size, they can co-habitate methinks. What with their cheek spikes, speed and swimming ability.
