This will be a good thread. I'm interested in fish that I can keep outside besides, Goldfish, Koi, and Sunfish. Any "tropical" fish that will survive a SoCal winter?
great thread. just the discussion I was looking for.
This is the first year I have ever had non kois in my pond besides my 2 sturgeons. This past spring I added 2 Redtail Tinfoil, 2 Yellowtail Tinfoil, 3 convicts, 2 pink convicts and 1 Indo tarpon. The tarpon will soon go inside but the rest will stay. WHO will survive the socal winter? ..... ..
My koi live happily with a sturgeon and some other randoms, tench a barb etc...
I've seen a guy locally keep koi in his tropical tank and he had quite a few varieties in their, silver sharks and similar and he said he'd never encountered any problems..
Nice to mix it up and keep it interesting, I love my koi but the sturgeon adds something to the pond dynamics. Also as the sturgeon is easier to tame and eats from hand etc, the koi seem to have become more friendly since they've seen him get attention.
Very interested to see how Yellowfins experiment goes! That's very adventurous
