Been a while since I have posted that long again since my tank has been empty while trying to decide on a stocking.my tank is a six foot 120 gallon I want to get away from a single wet pet and have a community of sorts. Would a group of geophagus and a single thread fin. maybye a pair of uaru and a Cpl smaller cichlids like krobia convicts or rainbow cichlids. does any one have any other sujjestions ? A group of green terrors ? pair of trimacs ? thanks for any replies

Dry start a dwarf baby tears carpet. Crank up the co2, and put in a hundred white cloud minnows, 50 fancy guppies, and 25 of each rummy nose, black neon and cardinal tetras. Top of off with 15 Odessa barbs.

I would stock-
-(4-5) Thoricthys Meeki
- (3-4 )Geophagus Tapajo
-(5 )Spotted Pictus
-8 Giant Danios
- (1)Bristlenose Pleco
-(1) Clown Pleco
-6-8 Tiger Barbs
- (1)Red Tail Shark

If your water is soft I agree I would stick with south American cichlids, not centrals like the rainbows or trimac. Though, depending on how soft we are talking, it may be fine for centrals, cichlids are tough and adaptable within reason.

Personally, from the ideas you suggested, and since you want a community, I would go with something like this
-Group of 5 smaller geophagus like red head tapajos
-2 pairs of dwarf cichlids like the krobia or bolivian rams
-school of tetras
-small catfish like Hoplo
-fancy pleco like a gold nugget

I agree with GS about stocking.
And agree you should test your water and base your stocking on those parameters before you stock.
If your water is naturally soft (not artificially softened), and has a low pH (7 or under) small Geophagines, and other Amazonian species would be a great choice.

I also agree with Rocksor, Central Americans like fire mouths come from highly alkaline, mid to high pH water (above 7 into the mid and upper 8s) and may suffer stress over time from the lack of osmotic pressure (chronic HLLE, and bloat often appear from low osmotic stress in Central Americans),
just as Amazonian cichlids suffer from high osmotic stress in hard water tanks.
If you want to grow plants, the Uaru would not be a great idea, as they are primarily vegetarian.

I don't grow plants, and not much of a pleco person. I'll retest my ph when I get home in a few days If I remember it was close to seven.
