Ideas on this RO DI water unit

It looks good to me. It should be able to hand your level of hardness. I have a similar setup that works with my 22ppm KH/GH water. Just remember that the main thing that makes a good R/O filter is the filter media used. I noticed that they use the Filmtec membrane. Filmtec is a good membrane. So when you replace the filters be careful what you buy. I've tried to use cheap membranes, but they often plug up fast. They did in my case. Also if you don't have at least 60PSI you will need a booster pump. I don't know what your experience is Reverse Osmosis, but you will want to add the dissolved solids back in either by buying an R/O additive or by mixing in some of your regular water.

1. none.
2. the last part is confusing me. If I understand do you mean that you can have water that is to (clean). If so I know I just want to get the ppm down so my plants stop melting and so I can get discus (before you or somebody can say I have good plant substrate)

A reverse osmosis system will bring everything down to 0ppm. In order for fish and plants to thrive they need some dissolved solids in the water. There is a product called R/O right that can be added to the water to bring your water hardness back up to a reasonable level. Or the free way to do it would be mix your current water in with the R/O water so that your KH/GH are between 3 to 6. I believe Discus prefer 3-6. As fare as I know an R/O system is the best way to reduce the hardness of your water by that much.
