ideas to keep an eel from escaping

i just wanted to know some ideas to keep an eel from escaping.i was thinking get an extra inch on the height of the tank and dont fill it up all the way

You could try putting some sand or caves/ driftwood in your tank, works for me.

I had the same problem with my moray eels. I cut some screen that you use for Reptile tank an formed it around the top of the tank and the filters. So the only way out was threw the screen worked really well.

Tight cover and cover the filter areas with some form of mesh.

Seal it, I had to use eggcrate to keep my fire eel out of the AC110 filter. BTW I don't think the 1" of lower water line would help. While moving the 12" fire ell in a 5 gallon bucket with 4 or 5" of water in it, he managed to jump out of the bucket.
