Hi chaps, some of you may have seen my other thread

They are at it again and have taken over the whole right hand side of the tank now and started to attack the other fish like a spawning pair would.

Is there anything I can do to stop them or break the bond they have? I could move the Sal to another tank for a bit if that would help but ho long would it take for them to forget about each other and could they pair up again?

I would try seperate them for a while, lets say hmmm about a month? The reinctroduce the sal to the tank again, if they pair up again then you will have to permanently seperate them.

I agree with Hot Slime.

If you want to keep the peace you will have to seperate one for good. Even if you take some time off it won't matter, they should pair back up. How big is this tank? the 180 in the sig? I would suggest trading the male sal if it is a male, and getting a female sal if you have a female jag. Don't get a male jag if you don't already have one it will be far to aggressive just on its own. If you are having problems with the species getting along try keeping all the sex of the fish female.

If they're bonded pretty well, you'll probably just have to separate them. I have had 2 situations like this, and each one worked differently. The first pair would spawn like clockwork every 2 weeks, and had to be separated. The second is working for now. How, I have no idea. I was going to get rid of the female as soon as they spawned, and she ran straight into a rock, tearing her face up really bad. So in the time I had to keep her to heal before I took her out, they decided to split. They still shake and flare up for each other, but nothing more.

Ok, thanks I guess it's a case of separating them, shame cause I really like both and I don't have another tank here, it will have to go to my brothers house :(

id just let them pair up, have babies, then let the other tankmates eat the babies, food for free and the pair is happy to be together, dont seperate love

The only problem then is you have to deal with aggression from the pair.
