one of my buddies is just getting into fish keeping and starting with a 20H. what are some ideas for a few colorful, cool fish? i was going for shell dwellers but he wants more color probably. any kind of ideas are cool. thanks guys.

How about a good 3 or 4 Bolivian Rams? They are colorful and stay kind of small and not really aggressive.

I would take personality or better yet teeth over color any day. Color is cool for the dentist but doesnt always hold ones interest indefinitely. Run this by your friend and introduce him to some small oddballs.

I have a 20 extra tall, I have 2 gourami's, 2 dojo loaches, and 8 head and tail light tetras in now. I'm running an emperor 280 on it. It's right next to the dining table, and everyone loves it. I have to keep my "pretty" fish in the dining/living area. My fish that eat other fish are in my room....lol.

With those tall tanks, I've found that if you put in your bottom fish, your surface fish, and some mid water dithers, it comes out really nice, because there's movement in the whole tank.

If he wants to keep ram, it is best to have a single ram or a pair. There might be some aggression issues if he kepts 3 or 4 in a 20. The bolivian i have does not get along to well with my blue ram in my 60G. Althought none of them is hurt, there is still some chasing going on. I would recommend a betta, some sort of small fancy pleco, and maybe a small school of tetra if the betta is not aggressive.
