Mandarin, Fl
Here is a pic of my tank from tonight. I scrubbed off all the hair algae I was having an issue with so it looks way better. However to me it looks lacking. So I am looking for ideas/ inspiration for my tank. Current stock is:
1 Ocellarius Clownfish
1 Fancy Percula Clownfish
1 Diamond Goby
1 Green Mandarin Dragonet
1 Orange Sea Star
2 Peppermint shrimp

Well i have 15 astrea snails and 15 blue legged hermits... I just don't consider them "stock" lol

I know I need more LR... Just reluctant because it is pricey. i've been thinkign I just using base rock

I think stacking up some base rock would be a great idea. Make some caves and areas for the fish to swim through. More corals are always a good thing too.

Some cardinal fish or some other fish that arent shy and stay higher up in the tank would look nice also in my opinion. I really like my pajama cardinals even though it seems like alot of people dislike them.

I'm diggin' the look of the Tukani and Tonga LR branchs in mine - gives it a reef look and texture even without the corals. Not alot of weight to the branchs a few lbs goes along way.

You might consider breaking your rocks into half etc with a large crowbar. That is what we do when we have rocks that are too large.

Take the smaller rocks, and drill holes in them with a hammer drill with a masonry drill bit. After that I just ziptied the rocks together for a very unique, open, stable rock work.

So i should break up the bigger rocks into smaller bits?

Also, aquascaping question. Do you guys more or less just put the rocks against the back glass or in the middle of the tank? I mean obviously leave some room for the fish but more or less at the back of the tank?

Yeh, all of your rock is too rounded making so there is nothing "fun" to work with I think. Maybe just get more LR?

I've considered getting more LR (or base rock)... never thought about breaking it up...

You could get more, but breaking this stuff up will do the same thing in the short term.

If you are getting more I would just add baserock.

I dont like rock up against the back because it creates dead spots, and leaves areas where the fish cant swim through. You still want lots of little crevasses though because its places like this where larger fish will spend the night.
