I hope this is the right location for this post, sorry if it isn't...

Anyways, I just picked up two new fish, a 6" labelled as a "mosaic gar" (if I'm not mistaken, it's a type of pike characin?) and a 4" inch unlabeled (got it at needle nose price because they wouldn't listen to me when I said it wasn't a needle nose). I'm pretty certain it's a tropical gar, but want to make sure.

Mostly what I want to know is max size on both and make sure my identification is correct. FB_IMG_1462739083630.jpg FB_IMG_1462739080147.jpg

Shoot, I was hopeful it was a tropical lol.

Thanks for the positive ID

Striped pike characin on the second pic and will get cheer on soon by the gator gar.

Whoops I meant to say chomped on by the gator gar lol. I hate my iPhone sometimes.

No worries moe!

I assume you mean chewed? Lol

The pike characin gets a foot correct?

I know alligator far get massive. He is kept with polypterus currently (6-9". How long do you think I have until he starts nibbling the other fish?

EDIT: I started this post about an hour ago. Probably should have checked other posts before finishing and posting haha.

Thanks for the advice guys!

The pike characin can up to 16 inches but likely 10-12 in home aqauriums.

It'll get up to 18in in a year and then slows after that. The gar guys may help with size.

But it may eat the other fish not too long from now.
