Hi so I bought an arowana recently. He is around 6 inches or so and was very silvery when I got him. The fish store owner wasn't too sure about what type he was. Now he has turned a lot darker, I was wondering if he is actually a black? If he is a silver is there anything I can do to regain his color? 200 gal, currently eating hikari gold. Thanks !15652887712194517159720090178854.jpg

No it's a light yellow colour but there is a large piece of driftwood near the top of the tank where he always hangs out.

If your water parameters are good maybe it's just stress from moving to new home, I'd wait a few more days to see if it gets its silver color back.

As a side note it's good he's eating pellets but if you could get ahold of something like Hikari Food Sticks (which have higher protein content that (esp. growing) carnivores need compared to that in Hikari Gold), it'd be even better, just break them into smaller pieces as needed.

There's no doubt that he's a silver, I'm just concerned over the color.

In one of your pics it makes him look like he's just in shadow or poorly illuminated tbh.

Thing is I've had him there for a week or two it's only in the last few days that he has started colouring darker.Params are pristine. Also the hikari is only the staple diet. He is fed all sorts along with it ( dried shrimp, assorted frozen foods) but I will try get my hands on the foodsticks soon
Any ideas to if he is a black or a silver?

Yeah lighting and picture quality are quite bad but even so he has a dark sheen to him. Il try get some better photos . Could it be the hikari gold? I've heard it makes fish darker and deeper in colour

some better photos. PS- How can you tell the difference between the blacks and the silvers at this size?

Honestly in the newest pics, it just looks like a typical juvenile silver to me, though one with nice colros.

Put brighter lights on the tank and it'll look like every other silver.

As to how we tell them apart, at this size they look nothing alike. This is a similarly sized black:
