Had this fish for about 3 months now, growing about an inch per month. Got it from a local fish store. Not sure of the parents, but for those of you who have experience with Dovii, does this look to be male or female? And how long do you think I Could keep him in my 180 with a red devil and a Jag before having to upgrade tanks again? Is a 180 ok for life? Also with it being the smallest fish and being the last one added, will aggression be an issue in the near future?

Not my fish, not my channel but probably a good place to start.
I think he overstates the size of his previous fish

11 year old Dovii update - YouTube

Personally, i would only consider a 180 for a single male. no other fish. But this is a topic that can and will be polarizing.

180 is definitely the minimum for a solo dovii. Can’t say it’s a male or female, I don’t know dovii too well. Most large cichlids tend to show their true colors around 6 inches. That is when tension starts.

I figured it was too early to tell but I figured some of you professionals might know.

Rass Rass and Andy woods cichlids uk Andy woods cichlids uk are very good with dovii, they can probably help with sexing it.

Spotting in the unpaired fins will indicate a male. The females will have clear fins with no markings. Overall spotting on the sides will be heavy on the males whereas the females tend to have very little, and what they do have have is usually limited to below the lateral line. In these pics it's a bit hard to see but the first two pics look like it's developing spots in the fins.

There is definitely spots in the unpaired finnage. Looks like we have a male. Your dovii look awesome man. Hope mine looks as good as yours once he grows out.

Thanks man, pics truly don't do them justice. IMO a fully colored up dovii is near impossible to beat if you see them in person. They just have so much iridescence to them that is very hard to replicate in a picture.
