I have a pair of Geos (either M/F or dom/subdom M's) that were sold as surinamensis. Research shows that most Geos sold as surinamensis are actually misidentified.

They're about 4 inches long. Here is an excellent picture of the one that is definitely male, with one of my Bolivian rams in the background for reference. Second photo has the male on the right and the F or subdom M on the left. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Too young to ID IMO. From the looks of things at this age you have a Geophagus altifrons variant but again on the small side to ID accurately.

You could add to that sentence "... are actually misidentified G. altifrons". Chances are, if you've bought random "surinamensis" from the LFS you've got altifrons, IME.

This I agree to me most accurate with "geo suri's". I was lucky enough to buy five that were labeled as suri's, but got three altifons and two dic's.

Pretty young to id but I would guess abalios or altifrons.... leaning to abalios as thats what mine looked like at that age.
