Alright..... Here is the deal. I picked these up a few months back from a local shop that deals in high end cichlids.... They caught my eye and I noticed not only were they attached at the hip, but they also were guarding a nice batch of eggs...

Needless to say I took them on the spot, along with the eggs, and dropped them into one of my office tanks.

Three batches of fry later I'm STILL uncertain exactly what they are. They resemble jags to a point, but no matter what I do I simply cannot catch thier true color in a photo.

They are light electric blue with pink highlights, but when I photograph them NONE of the blue will show. It is like looking at completely different fish. Nonetheless.... here are the photos... Now remember, think of these as mainly a light electric blue and white with mild pink highlights....

Anyone have any ideas?

is it the sort of blue you would find on a convict cichlid ?

a bit more..... it seems to come and go. for instance now that their last batch of fry has been taken out and they are on their own again they are FIRED UP. I thought for sure I would be able to catch it on camera..... but soon as i uploaded the photos from the camera I nearly threw the cam against the wall...

I wish I could find some photos that resembled them but I do not even know where to start. I'm a reptile guy.... not big into fish. Only piranha. :)

In person they look nothing like the photos. Honestly the only thing these photos are good for in my opinion would be to explain their pattern.

Cuban cichlid, Nandopsis tetracanthus

gets 10-12", is a typical aggressive/territorial central american cichlid, not too common but definitely not rare in the aquarium hobby.
