Because of my lack of Heros knowledge, help me identify my fish, please. The colors are off on the last two females as their pictures were very dark and I had to lighten them. The rest are true to life colors. Thanks for looking!

Have to agree. Male looks notatus and female efasciatus.

Have to agree. Male looks notatus and female efasciatus.

My question is whether or not they are local of H. Efasciatus or if they are some kind of hybrid.

Either way they should be able to breed with the H. Notatus, whether or not you want that to happen.

They were sold to me at about 1" as H. notatus but over the last couple of years I've been told they didn't look like notatus because of the spot colors, body colors, barring. Was told recently they are sp. Inirida, but now I'm thinking that is not true. I originally got 8 fish and recently thinned them down as I had 6F and 2M. It would be weird if all the males were notatus and the females efasciatus if I received a mixed lot.

They are notatus. The bars and black spots are correct. Female notatus are solid like female efasciatus but with the orange-yellow color in the throat. They all have the black chin/throat lines too. I don't see any reason to believe these aren't all the same, especially if you bought them all together.

Some of the spots will appear red/maroon, particularly around the gills and face and on the lower part of the fish. Here's one of the F1 males I raised from my wild pair.

Interesting how some have relatively ordered rows of dots like yours and others have a complete scramble, like mine. This is using google images, so grain of salt.
