I have noticed a lot of terms thrown around to identify angelfish (pinoy, blusher, pearl), but find them a little confusing at times when trying to label angelfish in photographs. Could the experts here please post pictures of various angelfish along with a description of what you looked for (striped fins, visible gills, etc.) to identify it? It would be incredibly helpful. Thanks in advance!

I looked and did find lots of info in general, but couldn't find a clear-cut guide on how exactly to identify all the different strains... The forum is extremely helpful, thank you, and I'll probably register, but I am still unfortunately at a loss :nilly:

blushers refer to transparant gill plates. Pinoy is a strain of angel that shows an iridescent blue sheen throughout the body (lighting considerations help enhance this). Pearl refers to the scales. In pearls, the scales are not as flush to the body and thus reflect light more giving them a "pearing" look. All of these terms refer to line bred strains of scalare angels. To my knowledge, altums and dumerils are not being bred for color variation in the hobby.

GudEnuf, that second link was just what I'm looking for, thank you! Now I stand a chance at identifying my own angelfish  and am learning to tell the difference between (for example) a Koi vs. a Gold Marble. May seem basic to some, but hey, ya gotta start somewhere! :D
