Identifying gar, please respond

Hey guys, I'm brand new to the forum, and figured that this would be a great way for me to learn about fish, because while I'm not new to fish keeping, I'm new to the exotic species. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone could ID my fish for me, picked him up for $20 at my lfs, he's about 2" long, thanks

That's not a gar! Not sure of the exact species though. Looks like a species of freshwater barracuda.

it is not a gar it is a specie of pike characin, and these are illegal in Texas!

Huejeta gar like stated not a gar at all ...i think thats the spelling this looks like the marbled. been alot of these as of late in all the lfs ...there is a silver variant going around as well

it is best to return the fish and tell the store to get rid of them! there were a few LFS in DFW areas get shutdown because selling these fish!
