Hello
This tyke ended up being a hitchiker a fair few weeks back with some neons and was about the size of a 5p piece, now 3/4-1 inch. Just need
identity and care tips.
Someone has suggested South Central and possibility of baby rainbow or flier? Also perhaps salvini?

Please note I have never owned a cichlid and have no ideas on their upkeep. I went back to the store today but they dont have anymore and wasnt able to describe properly. I thought he would be eaten by the larger and more aggressive fish but seems to be growing and eating really well..
Any help appreciated.

Maybe a rainbow cichlid ? Difficult to tell when they are so young.

Rainbow cichlid. Nice pickup!

These guys are pretty mellow. Do good in community tanks with peaceful fish that are too big for them to eat.

Are you guys absolutely positive that this is a Rainbow Cichlid?

I am not an expert, but this looks like a Blue Acara to me.

I am positive that is not a Blue Acara ... Rainbow cichlid (herotilapia multispinosa) is a very good guess, I'd go with that for now

very nice fish, easy temperament, durable and easy to keep

can you get some better pics of it from the side? from the pics above I'd say rainbow as well

Thanks so much guys for the ID, glad it isnt going to turn out into a rampaging monster, I have more than enough of those already! I did try to get several pics but the little tyke really doesnt like to stay still.
