Is there some picture guide to do this?

i know there is a species of lugbris ( i think i got the name wrg ) thats also commonly sold as atabapo red pike...

True sp. "Atabapo" have a very prominent sub orbital eye marking. They also have a very unique pattern. They have an unbroken mid line that runs from the tip of their snout to the base of the tail. Along this stripe are 6 thin, vertical stripes that start at the mid line and extend up to the base of the dorsal. Body color when young is an overall brown to olive green color. The dorsal is edged in red. There is red on the tail radiating out from the caudal peduncle covering about 50% of the tail.

Cr. lugubris "Atabapo" is being sold as the unidentified sp. "Atabapo". Mind you, I don't think is a purposeful misrepresentation. It's just that people don't know wany better.

I know Peanut has pics of his juvies. Maybe he could post them as a picture is worth a thousand words. ;)

some more juvies (peanuts) and an adult pic. The last picture I don't remember where I found it but it was labeled as an atabapo II or atabapo "fire" The first pic is a crenicichla sp atabapo which is my personal fish ~Trent

The first pic is Cr. lugubris "Atabapo". This is NOT what is commonly referred to as the Atabapo Fire!! Rapps was selling these a few months back. They were incorrectly labeled.

The next two pics are of a juvenile and semi adult Cr. sp. "Atabapo"... real Atabapo Fires. Rapps has it mislabeled by calling it "Atabapo II".

The last fish is from a German website and is listed as Cr. sp. "Atabapo II". I've never seen this fish listed or pictuerd anywhere else. All the name means is that it is an unidentified Crenicichla caught in the Rio Atabapo. Since "Atabapo I" is taken (by the Atabapo Fire), it was labeled "Atabapo II".

The next two pics are juvenile Cr. sp. "Atabapo"... real Atabapo Fire. They are, or were, peanuts fish I believe.

Aye, exactly as Scat said it. Never seen the 'atabapo II' in the last picture anywhere else either. I think that is the only picture of them as well...who knows, maybe this will be their year!! :D Were my fish would be the proper termanology.....:(

Scat: I realize its not what is commonly referred to as the atabapo fire...I stated that in my post...

Sorry not trying to be a hard ass. Just want to try and clear some of the confusion around these fish.

You did call it Crenicichla sp. "Atabapo" which it is not. It is Cr. lugubris "Atabapo"

Hope that helps clear up a little confusion... :)
