Well I did it, I got pissed off and went off on someone. He has a 20 gal and some of his fish died. One of his fish was a 12" common pleco. The rest were tetras, goldfish, and various livebearers. Well he bought some more fish to put in his tank and they died, he took them back to the lfs along with a water sample. His ammonia was 2.0+ and he was mad his fish died. I was just standin there when he was yelling at the poor girl who was swamped at the time, then I interrupted and asked him his tank size. Then I asked him why he bought a fish that was clearly marked on the sign to exceed 20". "I didn't know it has the size on the sign" Then I asked why he doesn't learn about fish before he buys fish, then at least he can save himself some time, money, and frustration. Then he was going to buy ph up for his ammonia problem................ I just looked at him told him to forget chemical alteration and do a water change and part with the pleco. Then I walked away. Then I got into it with a petsmart employee who swears all plecos only eat algae. So what is wrong with selling them to people it is hard to find ones good for a 10 gal. I showed her the ottos, and said these eat algae, then took her to the gold nugget and said these eat meat, carnivores. Then I said most will eat some wood. At least now she knows better fish to sell people. Thanks for letting me vent.

I was talking to a guy at one of the LFS here, and he had been sold a GN by a lady that owns a fish shop in town. She too told him algae only... When will people learn that pleco doesn't mean that it will eat algae only.

its gonna happen 2 me soon...i went over 2 the lfs and a woman and child bought 5 baby res and a 10 gallon set-up.....she was bragging tellin ppl around her how beautiful they r and how big they were gonna get in all the space they have .....in the 10 gallon.
ive also had the same problem wit a petco employee tellin ppl plecos only eat algae

Well, I did make a few judgements about the guy, but first I asked him which species of pleco he had, he said "a pleco" I looked at him and said there are over 200 species of plecos, but most likely his was L-001 a common pleco. Here is were my judging of him came in. His clothes were all old and raggy and he looked weeks from a bath so I figured cheap ***, common pleco. Well anyhow he said " I don't know 200+ species of plecos", I said, no you don't need to, just the one you have. Don't you investigate b4 you buy??!!??

L001 isn't a very often seen in common pools now. There are also well over 400 species of loricariids, and many aren't identified.

Well, I guess I learned tonite, I thought there was about 250 +, not 400+. But I also consider some of them the same species, just some have different L#'s. And then there are those that are different subspecies of the same species, i.e. L-241, L-241a, and L-241b.

L# is just a way to describe color patterns. L200 has two different species, h. subviridis, and b. demantoides. Several species have numerous L#s as well. Consider though that L# go through 400 and LDA go to ~100 now. Plus all the species that never got L or LDA #s because they were scientifically identified before they recieved a number (this means they will never get a number).
