I've been seeing these all over at petsmart stores in my area (Oklahoma City, OK.)
Apparently the farm that supplies these petsmart stores has been breeding flowerhorn, and putting the culls in with their firemouth cichlids that they sell to petsmart in order to get rid of them. A questionable business practice to say the least, as they also put real firemouths in there, you know, so they'll be killed I guess.
Anyways I'm just posting to see if anyone else has noticed this, and to share this bit of information. They're faders.
I bought the first one I ever saw as I thought It was just a funny fluke, and $3 for a baby FH I can spare. Initially they looked like very low grade ZZ Red dragon, tan with a red throat, hence their being sold as firemouths. I got that little dude and after getting mad at him for killing some of my convicts, I just tossed him in my big system to scavenge around and forgot about him. however, I saw him the other day, and He's fading.
Who'd've thought?
So yeah if anyone else has noticed this see if you can get them for free as petsmart I'm sure has no idea what they are. Some I've seen have some pretty good potential for >$3 of worth
