If i was to add a sponge filter to my 120gallon tank *( it has 1 aquaclear, 1 emperror 400, and a power head.)

What would that do to my water perm? would it make my tank cycle again, or would it be fine?

I ask this because I want to add the sponge filter to my 120gallon but I have 2x 6" widebar datnoids, 1x 7" endi, 4x 4" clown loaches. Than the seperated part i have 6 Pbass ( 3 osc, 3 tems they are 2") 1x 3" jur, and 2x 3" royal plecos.

I'm worried if I add the sponge filter it will raise my amonia, and nitrite and make my fish die.

Adding another filter will only provide more space for bacteria to live on. There will be no re cycle, unless you remove all your other filters. Adding a sponge filter will also clarify your water quite a bit.

I may be misreading your post, i cant see how adding a sponge filter will interupt your cycle, now if your removed the other filters just used the sponge filter that would probably cause a cycle.

your bacteria colony lives in the filter and the gravel, if you remove the filters then you lose some of the bacteria

Sry, I really dident no how to put it but my question was answered thanks.

I ment this:

If I add a sponge filter, Will it recycle my tank. <- which I dont want.

Thanks for the answer time to add a sponge filter :)!

No, it will not re-cycle your tank. It will only help with filtration.
When that sponge is established you can actually use it to start new tanks:)

Look at it this way.........you dont cycle the tank, you cycle the filter. Since you have 2 "cycled" filters adding another one will not disrupt them

well, I added the endi today and after adding him I checked my water perm ( first time sence I moved the tank to a diff side of the wall.

nitrite .25
amonia .25
nitrate 5.0

I know that when you add a new fish the filters have to get cought up but is my water like this due to the endi i added?

Either that your your bio-load is more than your filters can handle.

Get that sponge in there! lol

Sponge is in :) It only has a 60gallon air pump on it now untill my bigger air filter comes in ( will be running 16 sponges on this beast.

thanks all!
