I am sharing this story in the event that somebody may be able to help me ID this fish.
20 years ago I had a 55gal tank with a variety of S. American fish (Dempsey, Managuese, Ghost Knife, Snake Head and more. I also had a Pike that I came across and picked up. Gotta tell you, the coolest fish ever. It didn't deal with the move very well into my tank. Litterally, it didn't eat anything for months after going into the tank and pretty much cowered to the other fish in the tank. In it's cowardly state, it was a dark brownish grey. One day, I came home and it was like somebody had put a new fish in my tank. Jerry (his name) was occupying the front center of the tank. His tail was fully fanned out as he sat there motionless. His color had changed to a bright gold (And I mean really bright) with a solid black stripe that ran from the tip of his mouth, through the eye, and all the way through the tail. His dorsal fin flushed with pastel purples and there was a bright red edging that ran down the top of it. Every other fish was stuck at the ends of the tank afraid to move. I wish I could have seen what happened that day. From that point on, he was the king of the tank.
Anyhow, I now have a 150gal that I am doing the S. Americans in and would really like to find another one of these. I have been looking at pics for days and have not been able to find one that looks like him. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Bob
