.. where would be the best places to look in to aside from craigslist? I've been watching CL for a few months now and tanks of the larger variety just do not show up or if they do, it's for a silly amount.

I'm interested in a glass tank, so would it be cheaper for me to look in to building my own instead of purchasing it? Talking about something like a 7 foot long, 3 foot wide type deal here. I'd be housing it on a concrete slab foundation.

Really just clueless where to start for this.

If you want 7' x 3'. You will either have to custom build it or have it custom built for you. glasscages.com is one place for custom glass.

FYI, probably be cheaper to buy all of the glass or just have it build rather than build a plywood 200G tank. Plywood tanks do not really become cost effective until about 500G or so.

good luck getting a tank that big into your house. You might as well just build it in your house

Sliding glass back door is 4 foot wide so getting it in to the house would be a non issue really. Finding a way to build it or have one delivered and built at a reasonable cost is a harder thing to do than getting it in the house :) And if for giggles I went wider for some asinine reason, I could always take out the sliding glass backdoor and put it back in after moving the tank in to the house. However, a tank that size would start to really cramp the room it would be going in to, lol.

The measurements were just a starting point really. a 7' x 2' is just as considerable as the 7' x 3' is, the gallonage(new word?) would just be cut down a fair bit as well as potential stocking list. Whatever is going to be more cost effective is the way I am going to want to go though.

you could just get your LFS to ofder you in a Marineland 265.

its 84x24x30" tall. it has awesome dimensions.

my only complaint is that the silicone work is noticably thinner on Marineland tanks vs Aqueon (aka Allglass) tanks. they are not as well built. on some models the glass is thinner for the same sized Aqueon tank. but Aqueon doesnt make a 7 foot tank..

The only LFS I deal with only has Oceanic tanks, I think that's the brand? I'll look in to getting them to ordering outside the brand and see what their thoughts are, ie: will they do it, heh.

Well its a good thing you were not on CL when I was:D. About a month ago I picked up a 225 gallon tank for $150. In a few months I'll be looking for another monster. Im trying to keep it down to 2 big tanks instead of 19 (75gl or smaller tanks) I want one large fresh and one large salt. Let me know if you find a place for a descent price. If not just keep hunting CL.:nilly:

Is there any site that gives a quote on the tank prices prior to delivery? Not seeing any quotes on any sites so far.

www.glasscages.com has a place with prices for the tanks then you just add whatever options you want. I purchased my 300 from them for a very reasonable price. If you don't want it drilled the price is $990. I got mine reef ready, acrylic overflow covers, and bulkheads for $1270. I called a local shop around here and they wanted over $5,000 to get me a custom tank like that.

I am very happy with my glasscages tank.
