A lot of Iguanas are federally protected, especially the Galapagos Land Iguana and the Marine Iguana. I don't know how old you guys are but a good 15 years ago or more, a huge breeder/distributer in Florida got in MAJOR trouble for importing a Fijiian Blue Iguana he was as big or even bigger than Bob Clark....state laws mean nothing when both the U.S. banned importing them and Fiji banned capturing, killing, or even looking at them the wrong way....as well as exporting them. You live in New Jersey? It looks like it is legal to keep iguanas there. I mean, obviously you can't take one from the Galapagos... but they are just as ugly from the pet store, lol... My experience with iguanas is they can extremely nasty...

Always do your homework before buying a new or rare species.
Beautiful lizards though, you're lucky for getting to see them in the wild.
How the heck do you keep Brook trout alive in a tank....I couldn't even the hardier species alive like Rainbows or BrownsYes, you should know where your pets come from, and it is important for me that their source is sustainable and that they are humanely collected or raised, but... This is kind of like spreading caution about getting a cat from a pet store because someone was arrested for selling a Maltese tiger once 15 years ago. Iguanas are not rare pets, they are sold in pet stores all over the US, and I doubt you would accidentally pick up a rare subspecies at the local pet shop here.
