Likely elongatus as that’s most commonly available in the states. If bigger than 12inches then u got a true Lima.

Cool catfish. Love he way they hover vertical.

You are very optimistic :) Those few people who had (hopefully still have) true lima and reported on theirs didn't say theirs were fast-growing, or at least I don't recall so. Anyhow, some of my 18-pack have gotten very close to 1' or at 1' and are 2-3 years old and I still hope that some or all of these will continue growing and turn out to be true lima. A fool can hope.

Or so I or we (?) assume. There isn't a better explanation yet IMHO but it doesn't necessarily make this explanation right.

You are referring to K. D. Breed from my YouTube video comments. I hope that what he says is true but I think we have every right to remain skeptical until proven wrong.

He looks to be German or of related country and has no videos posted: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7z2ifrEeG1ard8tKfVThEg

K.D Breed that's two different species. True Lima are the larger 80cm ones. Should share videos on here they are extremely rarely reported. Last time was years ago.

They looks very like the smaller sorubims but they are much more hungry i got them in the late 90's . But they all selled as sorubim lima i am not so sure about that. My big once have longer bobysice wiskers and the smaller on they only have half so long very hairlike wiskers.

K.D Breed elongatus stays around a foot and true Lima we have one report with pictures of a guy who grew one up to around 2' on mfk. The difference is very minute from what we saw and it was in the placement of the whiskers. Viktor wrote up a whole thread on it if your interested in mfk.

Very interesting. Perhaps your 6 are Sorubim lima and the other 10 are Sorubim elogatus, as Moe says. In the trade they are all called lima because these are almost impossible to distinguish when small. The trade name sometimes is erroneous and reflects convenience, not taxonomy. I am much surprised yours are over 80 cm, that's close to 3', as opposed to the 2' max known for lima. It'd be awfully nice to see your fish and also see their size next to a ruler.
