hi, i was wondering if the temp is about right in the tank would the heater shut off until the temp starts falling again ?

yes it will turn off to self regulate, which drives me crazy cuz im constantly checking to see if my heater is broken or not!

(yes i have a backup and yes i still check, its part of my OCD fish complex)

they do, on many of my glass heaters, you can tell when they shut off and on because of an orange light, on my heaters like stealths i can't tell though. just set the heater to the temp you want , and it'll do the rest.

All of my heaters do that aswell.

I remember one time my tank water felt to hot and I flipped! I had to have two people put there hands in the water and check the temp about 50 times until I noticed, its always that warm... :nilly:

You can hook up a constant digital readout. Putting even a towel over the top regulates the heat better depending on the tank size. Most heat is lost through the top. I never trust one thing, I always have a backup way to check stuff in case something fails. I worry too much!

for some odd reason... i had a whisper heater, and that it did not turn off. made the tank like 90+ degree F. when i felt the tank, felt like someone poured boiled water. i lost clown loaches, thanks GOD my jar and dats did not die.
