Someone brought a young green iguana into the store where I work the other day, and he's in bad shape. He needs some rehab that we can't really do at the store. If I had the space/time/resources at school, I'd take him myself, but sadly I don't. He came in with many layers of old skin dried onto his left back leg as well as his throat and bottom jaw (which looks to have caused some sort of mouth rot). I managed to get all the skin off of his leg, which is swollen, but he still has pretty much full use of it. The skin under the dried pieces looks very gray and dead which is what really worries me about the leg. His mouth is what worries me the most. He has what looks like more dried skin on his bottom jaw, which is a little swollen and pretty pussy. I didn't try to do much with that as I didn't want to stress him out too much in one day. He can still open his mouth almost normally and has quite a bit of strength and energy for as bad as his condition looks. If nothing is done, I'm sure he's a goner, but I think he still has a pretty good chance.

I was wondering if anyone near Bellefontaine, OH can take him and try to help him out. If I were home for the summer, I'd take him myself, but I just can't right now. If anyone would be able to take him, PM me (I'll pay for him if the management requires it, but they might just be willing to give him away to someone who can help him). If no one can take him (probably by the end of this week), he'll probably just have to be put down, which I would hate to do, but I don't want to see him suffer.

im to far
Yeah, I thought of you since you already have a rescue iguana, too bad you're in MA.

I figured there would be several people on here willing and able to help, but I figured location would be the biggest problem

Haha, yeah, I don't blame you for not wanting to come this far.

Anybody?

Good luck, I'd do it, I have in the past...but FL is a bit of a distance. Hopefully somebody takes on the job...green igs are such magnificent animals, seeing them in poor shape really bugs me.

Well, after working with him for a couple days and trying to get the dead skin out of his wounds (which I've come to the conclusion are probably burns...I hate heat rocks...) and cleaning them, he really doesn't look as bad as I thought. The surface of the skin on his leg is still pretty gray, but I'm hoping with a shed of two that will go away. The swelling has gone down a lot now that he has proper circulation in the leg. I got a lot off of his jaw today and cleaned it up. It really isn't misshapen or even that swollen and the skin under a lot of the burned tissue looks nice and green. Really with a little continued care, I think he should turn out ok. I really hope that once he's healed up, someone knowledgeable buys him. I don't want him going to some other idiot and having the same thing happen again. I still really want to get him myself, especially after working with him so much this week, but at this point that would probably require getting rid of something I already have. I have a cage big enough for him for probably his first year, but I just don't really have the space/money to really get another setup running at this point...
