Hi guys my tigrinus got injured this morning woke up found his upper part of his mouth, top part of the shovel below the eye, gashed. It looks like as if the skin on that part of the shovel got scraped. It looks awful the gash stretches almost from one side of the shovel to the other. Depth of injury maybe around 1mm i think its a flesh wound. The skin near the side fin is also gashed.

Can anybody give advices please i really need some now. The tigrinus is in a 120 gallon tank. Its about 18". At the moment im doing 40% water change with some aquarium salt. The tig is eating normally except that hes now swimming on the upper part on the corner of the aquarium tank which it usually frequent but right now hes been swimming there for awhile, usually he comes down after awhile.

Im attaching some pictures. The injury looks very red. IM sorry bout the pic quality but this is my best result after trying for more than 20 mins.

PLease guys any advices will help.

Thank you,

David

he should heal fine just make sure your water is good. i wouldnt change the water right away inless its bad. he should be ok if you have meds treat it, salt is good

Thanks charlie appreciate it. Just only a few days ago i lost a colony of menarambo cichlids and now this. Thanks for the advice man. I was thinking of treateing it with melafix if his condition worsen. Im gonna monitor him closely. thx again.

More expert opinions anybody???

I just bought a zorro cat that was severely bitten by my florida gar. He had a deep gash in his ventral area. It was open and looking very bloody, with muscle hanging out. He was injured Saturday and it's already closed up and healing. It was worse than the gash your fish suffered. Just keep your water clean and let it happen on it's own. I was about to place the fish in a tank with salt water, but decided to let it heal on it's own.

Thanks philly for sharing your experience it kinda help relieve my stress man.

No problem . . . Good luck.

as long as you don't stress him and your water is in good standing it should be OK. salt should help though. keep a visual and watch for any infections , and secondary infections
