Alton, IL (AHN) Talk about a fish story, 33-year old Tim Pruitt of Godfrey, IL snagged the prize of a lifetime when by catching a blue catfish tipping the scales at a whopping 124-pounds!
Pruitts catch is believed to break the previous world record of 121 pounds, 8 ounces [the IL state record is 85 lbs.] made in January 2004 in Lake Texoma, Texas.
The massive fish has been measured and recorded by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources [58 inches long and 44 inches around] with the International Game Fish Association to certify it next.
Pruitt says he caught it below the Melvin Price Lock and Dam on the Mississippi River near Alton.
He says he fought with the monster fish for about thrity minutes before finally pulling it into his boat. He adds, at one point, the fish acutally dragged the boat with three people in it before finally being reeled-in.
Officials say the fish will be kept alive on display in a tank at Cabela's Outfitter in Kansas City, Kansas
