Mexico's Congress has condemned what it says is a border violation by US workers building a controversial barrier between the two countries.
Legislators say workers and equipment building a section of the barrier have gone 10 metres (yards) into Mexico.

The alleged border violation comes ahead of a high-level meeting in the Canadian capital Ottawa.

US, Mexican and Canadian foreign ministers are to discuss border security and trade issues.

Mexican legislators said they had photographs and video, taken on Monday, of the workers and heavy-duty construction equipment that showed them about 10 metres inside Mexico near the border city of Agua Prieta and the town of Douglas, Arizona.

The Mexican Foreign Minister Patricia Espinosa said she had complained to the US authorities and that the men and equipment had been withdrawn.

Continental trade concerns

In a statement, the US Ambassador to Mexico Tony Garza said: "The US is sensitive to Mexican concerns... [and] has the deepest respect for the integrity of the sovereignty of Mexican soil".

He said US Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff had not been in the area of the alleged incursion and recent photographs of him welding a section of the fence had been taken in a different part of Arizona on the US side of the border.

The US says it is building 700 miles (1,125km) of fencing along its border with Mexico to stop illegal immigration.

Many Mexicans see the fence as offensive and say it will be ineffective and potentially cause more deaths in border crossings.

An estimated 1.2 million illegal immigrants were arrested in 2005 trying to cross into the US via the border states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.

About 11 million Mexicans are thought to live in the US, more than six million of them illegally.

Later on Friday, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is meeting her Canadian and Mexican counterparts - Peter Mackay and Patricia Espinosa - in Ottawa.

They are to discuss concerns that security measures put in place after the 11 September 2001 attacks on the US may hamper trade between the three countries.

The officials will also look at co-ordinating responses to emergencies such as a pandemic outbreak of avian flu.

OMG! Continental trade concerns? You mean the Levis I buy that are made in Mexico and rip at the pockets may be a future issue? The Vans shoes I buy that rip at the inside heel and tear from the sole may have to be made somewhere else??? TOO BAD!!!! :irked: Maybe we ought to have money printed that will fade once it crosses the border, I dont think so, and I dont think anything will hamper the trade between U.S. and Mexico unless it is by their doing.

Mexico has no one else to trade with.

And that is what happens when you dont play nice!;)

Actually, it's because Mexico doesn't produce much of anything unique to their region besides tourist destinations, which tourists from various corners of civilization flock to, not just americans. What they mainly export is manufactured goods (leather goods, embroidery, etc...), which are viewed as low-cost/high quality, and the further it is shipped, the less of a savings you get. Thus, 90% of mexico's exports are to American soil. Wow!

An interesting side note: if Mexico adopts a view that the U.S. has held such that a problem with immigration correlates to economy dampers (think 'time immigrants' episode of South Park "They take arr jobs!!"), Mexico has it's own immigration problem with El Salvador (Karmas a *****! j/k). El Salvadoranian (sp?) gangs are on the rise and becoming a problem.

Sounds like it would be our doing rather.

Well another odd bit of info, Mexico has a much stronger immigration polisy than U.S. I have a friend in the National Guard down in California near Brwly and the things he tells me are appauling. There are certain cities in California that he and his fellow guardsmen are not allowed to visit because of backlash from Mexican American citizens. They have had death threats, vehicles destroyed and have been shot at numerous occasions. The Guard also refuses to arm the National Guard appropriately. Hmmm... Whos side are they on? An American soldier being threatened in their own country and the U.S. government refuses to protect them.

Kinda funny how we got different rules for different kinds of people here in america:screwy: .It's o.k. for a illegal mexican to take some pot shots at the national guard but if i do it i am a regular white american dude they would call me some kind of terrorist cult leader a brach dividian or some crap like that:WHOA: i just don't understand why my goverment pics and chooses the laws it wishes to enforce 1 day they will arrest for this and the next they won't:screwy: I can't help but point a finger at W for the whole border mess no matter how u veiw it the system is broke and who's going to fix it.

Although I can't wait for W to be out of office, I don't think we can blame him for the border spill.

It's been an issue for a long time, but nobody's really done anything. W can only be blamed for using it as slight of hand to distract American's from having their rights dissolved.
