I did a bit more research on this story and you were right, the father wasn't happy at all about the relationship, not one bit.....at first anyway. Once he actually met the old dude though he mellowed, and apparently he actually likes him now!

One other thing of note is that the old guy is a good few years older than her grandfather!!!

probably someone should have told him you can get the length of your trousers altered too so they fit properly.
I saw this story but didn’t pay any attention to it, it seems odd but if they are both genuine about it and happy then what’s the harm. Given his age she will be single again by the time she’s in her early 30s anyway,
It’s funny, if my daughter did this now I would have a son in law twice my age.
