So, I figured I'd drop by and see how this site compared to some of the other ones I've visited, and I find it sorely lacking.

I'm browsing the photo forum, and try to click on an attachment. It then tells me I cannot view said attachment without registering. "No big deal," thinks innocent I. I register, reading the TOS and come across this.

By participating in the MonsterFishKeepers.com forums, you agree that MonsterFishKeepers.com. shall have unlimited and irrevocable rights (including economic, moral and all other rights that may exist in such material) and license to use, display, publish or communicate to the public, permit others (including without limitation MonsterFishKeepers.com's co-brand partners) to publish, the Messages, online and offline, for a fee or otherwise, in whole or in part, throughout the world and in any form, media, or technology now known or later developed without need of any notice, remuneration, compensation, royalties or attribution to you.

(Bold added by me)

Now, I think that's a pile of crap. But that's another topic. I say to myself, "Well, self. Since you're just registering to look as someone elses photos that can be used for MFK profit without telling the author, you'll be just fine."

Wrong.

I try to view AGAIN said picture, and lo and behold, I have to have 5 posts before I can view the picture.

Now, unless the moderators WANT me to spam up a topic to get myself 5 posts to view one picture, I could comply. BUT, seeing, as I'm much more of a lurker and who posts only when I KNOW and answer, it's going to be a while before I get 5 posts.

So, I'm sorry to say I think I'll be sticking with forums that know their stuff.

First and foremost, thanks for your feedbacks.

This is a forum, which means PARTICIPATION is what keeps this site running.

If all of our 11 some thousand members are just here to browse, there'd be NOTHING to see.

As a member (or at least, a contributing member), 5 posts is a piece of crumb. Our members generate an average of 1,000+ posts per day. Even little nice comments or advice here and there will add up significant number of post counts on your profile.

If you wish to just view pictures, then I suggest you visit somewhere else other than a forum, as you are as useless to this community as a piece of dog hair. But I'm sure you know "your stuff".

As for the "bolded" segment of our member's agreement, it is to protect us from uselss threats from spammers/trolls who may one day want to sue us for a million dollars because "someone" decides to post something that doesn't belong to him/her. In public, we use that policy (the one you bolded), but in reality, we never use any works of others without their consent.

If you want, you can start CONTRIBUTING and enjoy THE fastest growing web forum dedicated to rare, exotic and predatory fish.

This is America, you're free to do what you want. Isn't it so great? :)

PS- I removed the links you so cleverly provided for our members. If you own a business, would you like some random bum to come over and start passing out flyers of your competitors to your customers? Grow up.

PPS- Try and put MonsterFishKeepers.com on "that site" which we filtered out. They did it first. Yes they did.

Welcome to MFK!!!

Just going by the length of your complaint posts, you could have made enough constructive posts in the subject forums to have met the minimum posts requirement. We'd like to find out what specimens you maintain. But, if this format isn't to your liking, no one's holding a gun to your head to stay.

Uh oh, another troll :SaiyanSmi

we've heard it before you incredible patriot you. Tell the masses for we are being duped by the big man upstairs.

:screwy:

PS. Go back to water-wolves because it's incredibly obvious what you're trying to accomplish with this pitiful little act.

I am sorry, but someone who doesn't even give the site a real chance because of legal jargon, then maybe we wouldn't want you in the community. We are all here to help everyone who wants to learn, and express their own experiences.

Yes, I could have had 5 posts by now. But, as I said above, I much prefer to post when I have info that I know is correct. On all the forums I visit my post count is low, but I like to think when I post I give good info.

I disagree with the above, as 1,000+ posts a day is irrevelent if 90% of them are meaningless or misinformed. I like quality over quantity. I'm sure many of your members know their ****. I just can't find it for all the deadwood.

I could easily browse and post 5 worthless posts like "Hey, nice fish." and whatnot, but since I can't even see the fish it's a moot point, no?

I'll be the first to admit my range of fishkeeping is narrow, but deep. I focus on new world cichilds, and am a year away from a biology degree and pursuing a cichild related career.

I'm still leery of the TOS, so if you don't mind I'll post some links to fish I own/have owned. (Which you can view without registering :P)

The brasiliensis just had their first succesfull brood, but I was busy and didn't seperate.

I've got much more, those are the only one's I can scrounge right now.

In short, if someone doesn't like the programming, they can always change the channel.

This is a forum, not an english dictionary.

We communicate as a community. We compliment and share.

If you can't find any informative posts on this forum, then you must be reading in a language you don't understand.
