Feeder Fish
Ok, so this morning I turned the light on and fed the 2 gourami and one (female sailfin) molly that have been quarantined in a little 5 gallon tank only to find that there were 4 new orange babies swimming around! My gourami are blue and there has only been one molly for about 3-4 months now. I'm a bit confused. After a few minutes of browsing the web, I learned that mollies are in fact livebearers, so clearly she's the mom since there was no nest and no babies yesterday... but will the female really give birth without the presence of a male? I guess so! I had no idea.

So anyway, now what do I do? What precautions should I take to ensure that the little ones stay healthy and have a chance to grow up? I was planning to siphon the gravel / do a water change today, but they'll get sucked up if I do...

Another concern is that the gourami still don't look healthy. (They stay in one place, don't appear to be eating, loss of color, and sometimes dart around really fast, banging into the walls of the tank- they didn't respond to treatment and I was pretty much counting my losses at this point). The molly wasn't looking so great either but at least eats and behaves normally. Should I try to get the little ones out of the hospital tank and move them into my 30 gallon? Hmmm... in that tank, they'll likely end up a snack for my rope fish or maybe even the pleco (currently the only inhabitants). I have a small floating breeder that I could attempt to hold them in. Would any of you recommend this? Or should I just leave them alone? I definitely could use some advice here as this is not a topic I have any experience with...

Mollies can store sperm and have up to 6 broods from one mating.

Move the babies either to another tank or get a net breeder to keep them in. They'll eat crushed flake food.

get a bigger tank too, 2 gouramis and a mollie dont have enough room in a(im assuming minibow) 5 gallon.

Key word: quarantined. Also depending on the size and type of gourami, they could be fine for quite a while in a 5g tank.
