So its official, my texas and convict are a pair:irked: and where the convict has dug a pt out underneath one of my rocks there are wigglers!!! It is amazing seeing this happen because the Texas I was sure was a Male is obviously a female, and has been attacking relentlessly anything that comes near there babies. I was thinking that they were a pair but I never even thought that they would spawn!!! Anyone have pics of a Pink ConvictxTexas hybrid??? I think they are going to be mean little buggers if anything. And this is the first sign of any wiggling, becasue I never even saw the eggs because the convict had hid them underneath the rock. When should I remove them before they start eating them??? I'd like to get them out and see if any survive...I am soooooo excited my first cichlid tank and already have fry!!!!! its amazing what nature can do.

that's an interesting pair, what are you going to do with the hybrid fry...feed them to the bigger cichlids?

I really dont even know yet, I'm filling up a spare 55 as I type about a 1/3rd of the way up and have a heater going for them that I am going to let them get a little bigger probably and see how they look hell i might just create a new species if they dont turn out looking like mutts lol.

Sounds interesting! Do you have any pictures of the parents?

I will later after I get the fry out, they are attacking my arm whenever it goes in the tank. They are pretty upset I guess that I found they're babies.

Here are some pics I know the fry are hard to see but its the best I can do till I get a digital camera soon. Pics of the Convitct male and the female Texas.

Edit: Siphoned the fry out of the tank into a bucket and then siphoned them into a 55 gallon that i filled half way up and put some 2 hiding spots in there and a sponge filter and heater to keep them cozy. Also crushed up two hikari gold pellets for them to eat, they have formed a little ball in a corner of the tank. Will have some pics of the fry when I get the digital camera.

They have layed about 500 more eggs.

congrats on the frys :D welcome to cichlid breeding. :D

i don't think they will be to interesting grown out. also not a popular cross, and this happens all the time with these species. i'd feed them to others :D

gl with whatever you deciede, just don't try to pass them off on someone else, when they all turn out convict looking... :D
