I was wondering how to tell how long my guppies and mollies have been pregnant and when should I put them in breeders.

If you have males and females of guppies and mollies in the same tank.....the females are pregnant. Normally takes them about 4 weeks to have them. They can store sperm and get pregnant again for up to 6 months from the last time they were in a tank with a male. The easiest for me when I had them was to watch for the gravid spot on the lower rear area of the fish to enlarge and the female looks like she is going to bust when they get close. Mollies tend to get very square looking and look like they are going to bust.

Ok thanks, and are the mesh breeders better then the plastic ones?

i think they are, they are bigger plus eventually algae with grow on the side of the mesh which the fry can eat

in my opinion the mesh breeders are not as stuffy as the plastic ones. th plastic ons have little flow and if u over feed even a bit it will be stuck in thre and rott. also iv had babies get eaten through the slits on the sides of the breeders, and if its the floating ones they are a pain. I fmale will also refuse to eat right before birth and she might hover at the top or at the bottom of the tank. if u put her in th breeder to early she might stress out to much so watch her carefully ;)

i like the plastic ones only because they seem like less of a hassle to use and don't get as messy

This man speaks the truth.

Thanks everyone. The molly I put in the mesh breeder wont eat, is that because she's in the breeder or because she ready to give birth? Should I leave her in there?

BTW, her stomach is quite large.

One more thing, can I just leave her in the tank to breed or will she eat them. The only other tank mates are guppies.

Well the molly is in the tank now. She is just hiding under some wood, not eating.
